The Kerins O’Rahillys Gaelic 4 Mothers and Others (G4MO) team hosted a heartfelt and uplifting Football Blitz on Sunday, October 5th, in loving memory of their dear friend and teammate, Alison O’Sullivan.
Held at the Strand Road grounds in Tralee, the event brought together teams from across Kerry for an afternoon that perfectly blended sport, friendship, and remembrance. Visiting clubs included St. Pats, Austin Stacks, Moyvane/Knockanure, Ballymac, Churchill, Abbeydorney, and John Mitchels, all joining Kerins O’Rahillys for what proved to be a memorable day both on and off the pitch.
The day began with a warm welcome and group warm-up by George, before the games kicked off across two pitches. Matches were played in great spirit, with plenty of laughter, encouragement, and good-humoured competition — a true reflection of what the G4MO ethos stands for: participation, fun, and inclusion for all.
A highlight of the afternoon was the Cross Bar Challenge, which saw three players from each team step up to test their accuracy and raise a few cheers from the sidelines. But on the day there was only one winner Michelle Carroll from Abbeydorney. She was presented with the Alison O’Sullivan memorial trophy by Amelia, Alison's Daughter.
After the football concluded, players, families, and supporters gathered in The Klub for refreshments, live music, and a raffle, rounding off a day that was as joyful as it was meaningful. The atmosphere was one of warmth and togetherness.
The blitz raised €4350 - All proceeds from the Blitz will go to Palliative Care Tralee, who took such fantastic care of Alison and one that provides vital support to local families.
Speaking after the event, one of the organisers said:
“It was a wonderful day that truly captured Alison’s spirit — full of football, friendship, and laughter. We are so grateful to all the clubs who travelled, to the referees who volunteered their time, to everyone who donated including the clubs who couldn't make the blitz or volunteered, and to Alison’s family for being part of such a special occasion.”
Kerins O’Rahillys G4MO would like to sincerely thank all who contributed to the success of the event — from players and referees to sponsors, musicians, and supporters. The club also acknowledged the huge community effort behind the scenes, with many helping to prepare pitches, organise the raffle, and ensure a smooth and enjoyable day for everyone involved. A special mention to Frank O’Connor for all his help.
The event was a fitting tribute to a teammate who embodied everything that is great about G4MO — positivity, inclusivity, and friendship. Alison’s legacy continues to inspire all who had the privilege to play alongside her.
